Art Show

So the kids had their Art Show at their school a couple of weeks ago, showcasing the art work they have done through out the year in with the art infusion program. (A parent run art program that brings the kids monthly art lessons taught by parents) Of course the boys are proud of their art work, as they should be! And just a little side note, the very top picture in this post, is from Matthew's 3rd grade class, although he didn't choose one of the self-portrait pieces to show. But I included that picture because out of the 4 or 5 pieces, the one that is in the top left corner is the one that Matthew's teacher did. ;) She did a pretty good job too!

It's Official....

It's official, I am no longer the parent of small children. I have gradeschool aged children. Mason graduates from preschool tomorrow and while I am mostly excited for him to move on to kindergarten, I think I get to be a little bit sad for one day at how quickly time is flying by. It's strange because that preschool has pretty much been a part of his life since he was only a couple of months old. First with just tagging along as his big brother went there, and then getting his own experiences at preschool. I am much more confident of his future in gradeschool, way more so than I was with Matthew. Partly due to Matthew's social struggles and partly that was the fear of the unknown, having no clue what gradeschool would bring. But we have had so many positive experiences with the gradeschool and I love it there. Wouldn't dream of sending my kids anywhere else. And it will be nice to have both of them under the same roof, only one school to devote my fundraising loyalties to, one school to juggle activities to. Not to say that there won't be a fair amount of classroom time juggling with both kids, that's bound to happen. But for the next couple of years we just have to concentrate on one place. Unfortunately, that does mean leaving the safe, protective, and oh so very sweet environment of the preschool. And I can only hope he likes his kindergarten teacher as well as he likes his preschool teacher, as excited as he is to start kindergarten, he is also already talking about how we must go visit "Teacher Amy" too! **sigh** Yes, I am feeling a bit sappy. But summer is almost here (gotta love summer and it's less hectic-ness!), and it's already here for Mason! I think my whole little family is ready to move forward with plans and dreams (and vacations!) but tomorrow is graduation and playtime at the preschool! We will see how well I manage to hold it together. ;) Look for pictures later of Mason graduating, I'm sure there will be some sort of silliness involved! The pictures below were taken on Monday, his last day of school. And for fun, I was just looking back on his first day.... ;)

Silly String

On the Saturday night before Easter (Easter Eve, I suppose!) we went to my Grandma's house for an egg hunt and Easter fun from my side of the family. My dad thought it was a good idea to give the children silly string. The boys (and grandpa!!) loved it. I guess I'm okay with it as long as silly string never makes it to my house.

V is for Victory

So this last weekend I finally got around to planting my garden. I had been meaning to get around to it for some time but life kind of gets in the way. I took Matthew with me on a trip to Portland Nursery which is were I usually buy starts for the garden and I let him do some of the choosing this time around. He was mostly concerned with planting a pumpkin and he also really wanted to plant a watermelon. I honestly was against the watermelon (I have never had good luck with them and apparently our weather just doesn't get hot enough for long enough) but I caved and let him have it. I did get to make a few of my own choices, zucchini, bush beans, and a small variety of lettuce, which I have actually never grown on my own. So we will see what happens. Shortly before we had gone to purchase all my starts I had been next door and Grandpa Andy had commented on how it seems we should be planting more Victory Gardens/vegetables instead of so many flowers as was done in years past in times of war. Apparently those thoughts were still on my mind when I was shopping since I did go a little overboard and still need to get a few more containers to finish planting all the extras that I bought! I think though that the Victory Garden idea is rather quaint and lovely, although in today's day it is also about sustainability. I do very much enjoy the fact that Matthew and I can provide us with some of our veg with just a little bit of extra work. I guess it's just nice to be able to not have to buy some of the basics for the dinner table! Not that I'm going to have a full blown farm here anytime soon. I am also a girl in need of some convenience (mostly for my sanity!) but I very much admire those that can live sustainably off the land like this gal ,whose blog(s) I read. I certainly don't have that much energy but I do like/enjoy doing my little bit of a garden! Now if I could only finish all the weeding that needs to be done....I also look forward to someday being able to get my children to do some of the weeding. Even if it means I have to pay them!

Sugar Hangover??

So Mason has informed me throughout the day today that he didn't feel good. And yet, he has gladly continued to dig into the Easter candy and listens to nothing I say about so much candy giving him a tummy ache! Matthew has ate his fair share of candy today too; and at this point I have let them have a lot and now it will be time to put some serious limits on the candy and detox my children. The kids really enjoyed Easter this year though, both egg hunts they did (one on Friday with Grandma Leslee and one on Sunday at Grandma Wade's house) and the thrill of their baskets from the Easter Bunny! And Matthew was very good (and very warned! last year he got into all of Mason's candy and toys before Mason had a chance to even see the basket) and didn't touch any of Mason's basket until Mason came downstairs to see it. So at least the kids were happy and now the parents pay for all the sweets that are being consumed.

On a side note, Mason has done so well with his big boy bed! Apparently, we caged him for too long in the crib (although I still sometimes think I would like to keep him there until he is 21!) but he loves his bed and actually stays in it when he wakes up until I come and get him. Yay!!!! So far, so good, because I was sure we were about to have a party boy at 3 a.m. every night.

Signs of Spring

These pics were taken last week....if I would have taken pictures yesterday since it was absolutely gorgeous ....completely sunny and 77 degrees out! The downer of course is that Andy and I are both miserable with a nasty cold. So the kids were outside enjoying the sunshine but Andy and I sat inside and complained, a lot! :) Hopefully we will both feel much better by tomorrow and hopefully the kids feel good too. (so far, so good on the kid front) Happy Spring and Happy Easter everybody!!
