The Dentist...Part Two

So this occurred the afternoon of the dentist trip and Matthew was extremely excited to "play" dentist with a willing (or not so willing) patient. Really...Need I say more?? :)

Run For The Arts

Yesterday at Matthew's school was Run For The Arts which is a which is a program that helps fund the schools with resident artists and art programs. So for example, last years Run for the Arts helped to fund this year's week long "Tears of Joy Puppet Theatre" resident in Matthew's class were they learned about puppetry and made puppets and put on a production of "The Little Red Hen". (which, I might add, was pretty darn cute!)

So the kids were all excited about this Run for the Arts day, however, Matthew missed school on Monday because he has had a nasty cough/cold and Tuesday morning I felt it was rather questionable that he would even go to school and run. But he wanted to go, so there was lots of cough medicine and and away we went. Mason and I hung around so we could cheer the kids on and the kindergartner's 5th grade buddies got to come out and cheer them on as well. And can I say how damn proud I was of Matthew, who I told to maybe only walk one or two laps, ended up running 6 laps and has the marks on his arm to prove it! (ok, so he did have to walk some of the time, but still!) That was a mile and a half, and I will be first to say I am certainly not going to be running laps when I'm all congested and coughing! So yeah for Matthew!! Actually, throughout it all, I was quite feeling the motherly pride with all the kindergartners, as they all took this very seriously and did such a fabulous job.

The Dentist

On Thursday Matthew had his normal 6 month dental appointment and as I got the boys ready to go, I explained to Mason that we were taking Matthew to the dentist. Well, in true Mason fashion, he threw a fit because he figured he should get a turn too! (In the midst of all this, Matthew is thrilled to go since he knows he gets to pick out one of the little toys at the dentist office after his teeth get cleaned!) So the whole way to the dentist Mason is still complaining, but we survive, Matthew gets his teeth cleaned and they look good so as Jeannie (the hygienist) is cleaning up, I mention something about Mason's teeth. She informed me that we could get his teeth cleaned that day, she had time if I had time and I certainly grabbed onto the opportunity! I was sure Mason wouldn't last all of 60 seconds in the chair but he surprised me and got his teeth polished and flossed and let the dentist even take a look at them! I managed to get a picture with my camera on my cell phone of Mason enjoying his time in the dentist chair...he even sat there a few minutes after because they let him play with the little vacuum tube in his mouth. I'm not sure why that was such a thrill, but everyone left happy and that's all I cared about!

Oh yes...I qualify!!!!

See....I won an award!!!! Just kidding!!! I actually recently started reading this blog and saw this lovely award and felt I was quite deserving myself. My special qualifications for such recognition includes not achieving daily goals/chores because it's more important to be on the computer checking out other people's lives (read: blogs), very rarely commenting on said blogs since I really am busy and should be getting x, y, and z done, and also often not answering/acknowledging comments on my own blog. ( I swear angel jem I will respond one of these days!). So for these reasons and more, I nominated myself and won! Of course plenty of people can win....as I understand anyone is welcome to copy the button and list your reasons for being an award winning guilty blogger!

Sugar Hangover??

So Mason has informed me throughout the day today that he didn't feel good. And yet, he has gladly continued to dig into the Easter candy and listens to nothing I say about so much candy giving him a tummy ache! Matthew has ate his fair share of candy today too; and at this point I have let them have a lot and now it will be time to put some serious limits on the candy and detox my children. The kids really enjoyed Easter this year though, both egg hunts they did (one on Friday with Grandma Leslee and one on Sunday at Grandma Wade's house) and the thrill of their baskets from the Easter Bunny! And Matthew was very good (and very warned! last year he got into all of Mason's candy and toys before Mason had a chance to even see the basket) and didn't touch any of Mason's basket until Mason came downstairs to see it. So at least the kids were happy and now the parents pay for all the sweets that are being consumed.

On a side note, Mason has done so well with his big boy bed! Apparently, we caged him for too long in the crib (although I still sometimes think I would like to keep him there until he is 21!) but he loves his bed and actually stays in it when he wakes up until I come and get him. Yay!!!! So far, so good, because I was sure we were about to have a party boy at 3 a.m. every night.

Signs of Spring

These pics were taken last week....if I would have taken pictures yesterday since it was absolutely gorgeous ....completely sunny and 77 degrees out! The downer of course is that Andy and I are both miserable with a nasty cold. So the kids were outside enjoying the sunshine but Andy and I sat inside and complained, a lot! :) Hopefully we will both feel much better by tomorrow and hopefully the kids feel good too. (so far, so good on the kid front) Happy Spring and Happy Easter everybody!!

Big Boy Bed!!

So today the big boy bed was delivered and assembled and I have a very excited boy!! :) Mason immediately demanded all his crib paraphernalia to be placed on his bed and was disappointed that we had to leave right away to take Matthew to school. But he informed me that we would come back right after dropping Matthew off to "sit on my new bed!". So far we are trying out a nap on it (at the moment he isn't sleeping but I'm trying to be patient!) and we will see how night time goes....I actually am a bit nervous for this because we have had almost 2 years of restful nights but we paid for that with Mason's first year. Seriously, he didn't sleep through the night consistently until he was about 13 months old! He still doesn't really sleep through the night....often at 3 am if I wake up I will hear him playing in his crib. So now I'm hoping he will be willing to stay in his bed (or at least his room) during the night. The truth of how this all works out will be revealed in a couple of weeks...meaning if I'm totally exhausted, he isn't cooperating!

100 Days of Kindergarten

So when I was a kid I am almost certain that we did not celebrate being in school for 100 days (maybe in this day of school budget shortfalls it is something to be celebrated but I guess that's a whole other subject!). But apparently it is a thing to celebrate, particularly for the kindergarten set and so I volunteered for the classroom that day. (Someone actually volunteered to take Mason, Thanks Kate!) There was a huge air of excitement that day and although I actually do enjoy being in the classroom and helping out with the kids, this day was particularly fun! The kids had their 5th grade buddies with them and started off the day making a "fruit loop" necklace with of course 100 fruit loops. I helped set up the tables with Karin (Robert's mom) and there were art projects, books, "100" goggles that they could decorate, and a snack they made with 10 different ingredients so it equaled out to 100. It was very cute and sweet and the 5th graders actually really made a difference in keeping everything from getting too chaotic. Besides, the 5th graders were a bit subdued anyway since on that Friday they were celebrating Dr. Suess's birthday and they got to come to school in comfy reading clothes...i.e. slippers, p.j.'s, whatever. I wish I would have thought to bring my camera with me but I obviously forgot so I had to make do with a picture of Matthew at home, afterschool.


Cute, huh?!!! This all took place on March 1st but I still just had to blog about it!! The Fruit Loop necklace is on Matthew along with his pretzel necklace. On that day of school the kids needed to bring in any sort of collection of 100 things. Matthew originally wanted to bring in 100 pennies but I really wanted something that he had to work a little harder at. So I encouraged him to make a popcorn necklace (and yes I had visions of us happily stringing popcorn together...which I should have know that it wouldn't have been so fun or happy) but me being quite the procrastinator that week, I waited until the last minute and wouldn't you know we did not have one popcorn seed in the house. That is a total and unbelievable sin, considering my husband is a total popcorn freak!! So a quick last minute change of plans evolved into a pretzel necklace and it actually worked out pretty good.
